Educate a Child
The barriers
preventing children from accessing school are numerous: conflict, poverty,
inadequate education facilities and unqualified teachers, poor health and
nutrition, and cultural beliefs. Tackling them is not easy, and requires
innovative and holistic approaches. Getting refugee children into school
requires a unique understanding of the specific circumstances in which they
live in their host countries. For some, it is simply a matter of providing a
little financial support to help with the financial burden of school fees or
the cost of a uniform; for others it can mean building additional classrooms,
training teachers and convincing parents to let their children attend, like
providing special support for children with disabilities. As part of this proposal
UNHCR will deliver whatever it takes in each unique setting.
